Franklin's downtown historic district includes the Simpson County Archives & Museum in the Old Jail and jailer's residence, which contains wall drawings left by Civil War soldiers held prisoner here (free, M-F 9-4 CST, 206 N College, 270/586-4228, no elevator). Border State Sutlers

Located 8 miles north of Franklin, the Octagon Hall Museum, an 1859 antebellum home is open to the public. The home was used as an observation point and sanctuary for the Confederate Cavalry. The home is currently being restored to the 1860's period and contains Civil War period artifacts, furnishings and an extensive reference library. House of Operation: Wed.-Sat. 8 am - 3:30 pm. Historic living histories provided.
