Construction on the fourth and current Hickman County courthouse was completed in 1885. H.P. McDonald & Brothers presented plans for the new building in 1883 and the appointed commissioners accepted them.
The courthouse is based on McDonalds standard design and the building is a two-story, Victorian structure. Some of the most unique features in the courthouse still exist such as the cast iron folding benches, and the raked floor. The contract was awarded to W.L. & T.J. Landrum of Mayfield for a cost of $20,845.
