The second and present Hancock County courthouse was completed in 1868. In 1866 the architectural firm of Boyd, Mursina, and Boyd, of Boston, were contracted to design the new courthouse. The new courthouse combines traditional Greek and Italianate styles. It was originally contracted to Robert Boyd for a cost of $14,975, but by the time the structure was completed the final cost had risen to over $21,000.
