The present Clark County Courthouse is the fourth courthouse to occupy that site. The architect was John McMurtry of Lexington. Started in 1853 and completed in 1855 the building is of Colonial design.
The courthouse has been through two renovations on in 1938 under a grant from the Works Progress Administration, and the second was in 1978. Many historical events have taken place on this site. It was here that Daniel Boone made depositions to the Clark County Fiscal Court on land surveys and geographic features and names. Also, on this site is where Henry Clay made his first and last pleas of his career before a jury.
