The present Christian County courthouse was constructed in 1869. It is the fourth courthouse in Christian County and was built to replace the old one, which was burned by General Lyon’s troops during the civil war.
This courthouse, which was designed by J.K. Frick, an architect from Illinois, has served the county for around one hundred thirty-four years. The design for the building is Greek Revival style with Italianate details and was completed for just under $100,000. The original hexagonal cupola was replaced by a brick one in 1903. In 1960 it was then removed due to its condition and the weight it added to the roof structure.
